BSP MLA arrested for ‘raping’ research scholar

Lucknow, Jun 29: BSP MLA Bhagwan Sharma alias Guddu Pundit was arrested on Sunday from sector 24 of Gautam Buddha Nagar for allegedly raping a research scholar.
Sharma was arrested after a FIR was lodged against him by a woman research scholar of Agra University under various sections of the IPC including 376 (rape) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) at Kasganj police station in Kashiram Nagar, Additional Director General of Police, Brijlal told media.
Besides, section 147 (rioting), 366 (illegal confinement), 363 (whoever kidnaps or abducts a women and compels her to marry or have a sexual relation), 497 (adultery) and 420 (cheating) were also slapped on the MLA, Brijlal said.
Sharma, an MLA from Debai seat who had defeated BJP leader Kalyan Singh's son Rajveer Singh Raju was given Z plus security on the recommendations of the state government.
In her complaint, the research scholar from Agra alleged that the MLA had married her two years ago by hiding the fact that he was already married and had two children, the ADG said.
"He (MLA) wanted me to be his kept and terrorized me physically besides mentally torturing me", the ADG said quoting the research scholar.
She also alleged that she was kept in different places and raped several times by the MLA's men.
Brijlal said, on the basis of the complaint of the woman, Station House Officer of Ramghat police station in Bulandshahr was suspended for trying to frame her and a colleague in fake cases of auto theft and fraud.
Asked whether the arrest was made on the direction of the Chief Minister, Secretary Home Mahesh Kumar Gupta said that GB Nagar police arrested him after being tipped off by the police chief of Kanshiram Nagar.
